International vaccination, immunization and health supply chain management program to deliver digital exams using ExamSoft

Dallas, TX – February 15, 2022 – ExamSoft is pleased to announce the addition of a new client doing important work in immunization education and training: EAC Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunization & Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM).

Founded in 2014, the EAC RCE-VIHSCM began admitting students to its two-year master’s program in 2017. This was in an effort to support the need for high quality training and dissemination of best practices in health supply chain management in the EAC. The program admits students from the EAC countries of Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda on fully funded scholarships from German Development Cooperation through KfW. Private students from the rest of Africa are also admissible

The EAC RCE-VIHSCM offers its training programs through a blended approach where students spent a portion of their training in-person in Rwanda and another portion learning from their countries online. Their final exams at the end of each of the four semesters were taken in-person as hand-written essays, which the instructors had to scan into their computers for grading.

Joseph Lune Ngenzi, a Training Assistant and e-Learning Specialist at RCE-VIHSCM, says that the transition to digital exams with ExamSoft will save time and enable graders to complete their work remotely.

“Scanning exam papers for 100 students is time consuming,” he said. “It normally takes one week to complete and to ensure that there is no error. With ExamSoft, we are looking to speed up the process so that markers can mark student exam much faster and also allow those who are marking to work wherever they are.”

The program met the challenges of covid-19 by going fully remote, but still had challenges with delivering secure exams during this time. By adopting ExamSoft for exams going forward, the EAC RCE-VIHSCM feels it will be ready for what comes next.

“We are looking at this as business continuity in case there is another wave. We don’t know if there will be another wave or another epidemic, but we have the tools. We have the systems that can help us to continue all academic teaching and the learning activity,” Mr. Ngenzi said.

Britt Nichols, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Sales for ExamSoft, said, “We are excited to bring on new partners like RCE-VIHSCM that are working to transform learning in an important region, and feel it’s an honor to have a small part in supporting this organization’s mission.”

Founded in 2014, the EAC Regional Centre of Excellence for Vaccines, Immunisation and Health Supply Chain Management (RCE-VIHSCM) at the University of Rwanda in Kigali is one of EAC’s six Regional Centres of Excellence. The organization’s mission is to contribute to solving existing performance challenges of the health supply chain management (HSCM) system in the EAC region through the generation of knowledge and its translation into research, policy and practice. The institution offers a master’s program and short courses to students from the EAC region.
