Creating Formative Assignments Using Digital Testing Software to Strengthen Student Self-Efficacy (EAC 2021)

NGN expects nursing graduates to demonstrate clinical competence through problem solving and clinical judgements. This assignment took writing objectives and transformed them to serve as a guide to writing alternate style questions. Students need opportunities to practice alternative style questions in low stakes settings. Students are able to form judgements and use real-world scenarios to form conclusions about patients and to connect at a deeper level with applied clinical reasoning.

After viewing this session participants will be able to:

  • Recognize previous assignments in their own curriculum that could be adapted to fit into a similar assignment.
  • Identify the advantages to students having practice with alternative style exam questions in a low stake setting.
  • Identify the grading efficiency and consistently that accompanies a formative assessment in ExamSoft.
  • Apply a similar style assignment to a variety of nursing courses within the curriculum
