Guiding vs. Gatekeeping in Assessment

Session Description

In higher education, the relationships between faculty and assessment departments can often be contentious or fragmented. At our university, we have found that the most meaningful way to improve faculty buy-in and grow assessment efforts has been to give the faculty greater freedom and access to assessment where we previously served as gatekeepers to everything ExamSoft. By making test construction a more collaborative process, we have been able to reduce turnaround timelines, decrease our margins of error on exams, and strengthen relationships between ourselves and faculty.
